  11.     TechPlot has its own data file format.
  12. It is a binary format.  TechPlot can also
  13. exchange data with many popular data file
  14. formats such as Lotus 1-2-3 WKS file,
  15. Microsoft Excel XLS file, dBASE DBF file,
  16. DIF, SYLK, etc.

  19. █  Importing and Exporting Data
  20.  
  21.     To import data into TechPlot from
  22. another file format, choose one of the
  23. Import Data commands under the File Menu.
  24. TechPlot can import data from ASCII, Lotus,
  25. DIF, dBase, Excel, and Quattro Pro.  Each
  26. of the import data commands invokes the
  27. Open File dialog box. You specify the file
  28. name in this dialog box and choose Open to
  29. load it.  If the specified file and file
  30. format do not match, TechPlot will produce
  31. an empty data sheet.

  34. █  Exporting data to other data
  35.    file formats
  36.  
  37.     To export data, choose the one of the
  38. Export Data commands.  TechPlot can export
  39. data to ASCII, Lotus, DIF, dBase, Excel,
  40. and SYLK.  Each of the export data commands
  41. displays the Save File As dialog box.  You
  42. enter a proper file name in the dialog box
  43. and choose Save to save the data to disk.

  46. █  Generating data automatically
  47.  
  48.     There are two ways to create data
  49. automatically using menu commands.  You can
  50. either use the Create Column commands which
  51. include create 2D curve data, create 3D
  52. surface (or bar) data, and create 3D curve
  53. data, or use the Fill Selection commands
  54. which contain random, algebraic, geometric,
  55. Gaussian, and used-defined options.

  58. █  Creating column commands
  59.  
  60.     There are three creating column data
  61. methods: create 2D curve data, create 3D
  62. surface / bar data, and create 3D curve
  63. data.  These commands are located under the
  64. Column | Create Column menu.  All of these
  65. commands display a Create Data dialog box.
  66. You type in the function string(s),
  67. variable, range, starting value, step size,
  68. and number of data points in the dialog
  69. box.

  72. █  Filling selections commands
  73.  
  74.     There are five methods to fill a
  75. selection with automatically generated
  76. data: random, algebraic, geometric,
  77. Gaussian, and user-defined.  These commands
  78. are located under the Data | Fill Selection
  79. menu.  All of these commands display a Fill
  80. Data dialog box.  The fields of this dialog
  81. box are very similar for each method.  In
  82. this dialog box, you specify a range and a
  83. function formula, then TechPlot will
  84. generate data using the function you
  85. defined to fill the range you selected.

  88. █  Printing data
  89.  
  90.     There are two commands for printing
  91. data: Print and Print Selection.  The Print
  92. command lets you print all data in the
  93. active sheet, and Print Selection only
  94. prints the selected data block.  Please
  95. make sure that a printer is properly
  96. connected to your computer and that it is
  97. turned on before you choose this command.
  98. TechPlot will add a page header which
  99. includes the file name, date and time,
  100. and page number information.

  103. █  Changing the data sheet display
  104.  
  105.     To change sheet appearance, you choose
  106. the Sheet | Number Format command.  This
  107. command displays the Column Number Format
  108. dialog box where you can set the display
  109. format to one of the following format:
  110. decimal, scientific, dollar, or percentage.

  113. different number formats display.
